There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse, and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey. John Ruskin, (attributed)
English critic, essayist, & reformer (1819 - 1900)
So much of today’s world is all about price. Not quality. Not taste. Not talent.
We at Mason’s Bakery, like yourself, understand that each dollar counts… Especially in these hard financial times. We believe that you truly do get what you pay for. We thought that we would share why we charge what we do for our Wedding Cakes.
1. Consultation –
this is not charged to you as a separate line item, but rather it’s our time to get to meet you, understand your needs, go over designs for your custom cake, and have you try our delicious cake samples. We feel that this is a required meeting so that both parties can join forces to create the most beautiful cake for your big day.
2. Experience –
This is our family business. We are second generation bakers, and we pride ourselves on that. We do not sell cans of corn, or frozen waffles in our bakery. We only have one aisle. We care what we create, and it shows. Our main goal is to bake all of our products without preservatives, additives, or other “fake” ingredients. This means a fresher, healthier product for you. We don’t import our cakes from some manufacturing plant. It’s made here fresh daily.
3. Price –
Yes, we are more expensive then the big box stores. We cannot and will not compete with them. They are volume over quality, and that is never a good goal, especially when it comes to wedding cakes or specialty cakes. Sylvia Weinstock, the famous cake decorator asks this of her clients: “If you were to buy all of your guests a martini, you would pay roughly around $8-$10 per drink. And what is a martini? It is not a specialized custom made item. It is certainly not something designed to match table linens or the flowers. A martini doesn’t require any artistic input. And it’s definitely not something that will capture the memory of a milestone. It is not something you will remember after it is gone, no one really cares if you have a picture of it. A martini is only a martini, and that’s all it will ever be. Don’t you deserve your cake to be something more than a martini?” Her statement truly puts a good perspective on wedding cakes.
4. Reputation –
Being that we are a family business, we do care what people think of ourselves and our product. We do care if the cake tastes great and looks great. It’s always been our motto. We do not believe in taking advantage of people, and charging them extra because it’s a wedding. We want you to feel like coming back for all of your special occasions. We want you to be a customer for life.
